Santa Claus Parade Participant Package

Schomberg Village Association ('SVA') would like to thank you for your interest in participating in the parade. Outlined below are the regulations pertaining to the parade. Please read these carefully.

Important Information

DATE: Saturday, December 3rd, 2011
TIME: 4pm start - marshalling of floats starts at 3pm.

THEME: All floats / vehicles are strongly encouraged to be decorated in a Victorian Christmas theme. Please note that there is only one Santa Claus and he comes at the end of the parade.
APPROVAL: The Parade Marshal will contact you with confirmation of acceptance of your float/vehicle into the parade.
ROUTE: The parade starts on Western Road, beside the Schomberg Arena and will proceed to the junction of Western and Main, turning right (South) along Main Street. The end of the route is Main and Church Street.
PARADE DIRECTIONS:   Please see below for detailed information.
WASHROOMS: Washrooms are available in the Schomberg Arena on Western Avenue.
DRIVERS MEETING: All entrants MUST attend a mandatory Drivers Meeting at the Schomberg Library in mid-November. Date and time to be determined.

General Information

  1. Floats in the Parade will line up along Western Avenue, the head of the Parade being at the Schomberg Arena end.
  2. Your float position in the parade will be on a 'first-come, first-served' basis (i.e. no numbers will be allocated).
  3. Music is strongly encouraged; however any music coming from the float must be played at a reasonable volume. Marshals have the right to ask that music be turned off or down if necessary.
  4. For safety sake, no decorations or skirting should be too low to the ground.
  5. Everyone on the float should keep their arms and legs within the perimeter of the float.
  6. Floats must not be more than 14' high due to hydro wires.
  7. Advertising signs are permitted.
  8. No candy should be thrown into the crowd from floats or along the parade route. If you wish to hand out candy, it must be done person-to-person only.
  9. Float operators/drivers are required to obey and follow all instructions given by the Parade Marshalls and Police. Parade Marshalls will be identified by their arm bands or safety vests.
  10. Participants may use the portable toilets in the Arena parking lot while they are waiting for the start of the Parade.

Parade Directions

Joining the Parade

  1. Participants must join the parade by driving along Western Avenue from the southern end (Church Street).
  2. Participants should approach Western Avenue from Highway 27 and Main Street.
  3. Continue along Main up to Stop sign at the junction of Main and Church.
  4. Turn left onto Church Street and then right onto Western Avenue.
  5. If you are driving a Float that will be taking part in the Parade, you should line up along Western Avenue. It will be a 'first-come, first-served' basis and a Parade Marshall will indicate where you should park.
  6. If you are taking part in the Parade on foot and need to park your vehicle, then continue to the end of Western Ave and into the Arena parking lot. Park your vehicle and take everything with you that you will need in the Parade.
  7. Once you have parked, all participants are asked to check in with one of the Parade Marshalls.
  8. The Parade will begin at 4pm from Western Avenue, turn right (South) onto Main Street, and go South along Main Street to the junction of Church and Main (just past the CIBC).

Dispersing at the end of the Parade

  1. The end of the Parade is the junction of Main St and Church St.
  2. If you DO need to return to the Arena parking lot when you reach the end, you should turn right onto Church St and then right onto Western Ave which will take you back to the Arena.
  3. If you DO NOT need to return to the Arena area, then please continue on Main Street towards Highway 27.

Dropping off people from Floats

  1. If you need to drop off participants from the float, DO NOT STOP at the intersection of Main and Church Streets.
    THIS WILL CAUSE THE WHOLE PARADE TO COME TO A HALT.
  2. Continue past the end of the route and pull over the side of the road as soon as you can safely do so and without impeding traffic.
