Intelligent Content 2011: All Things Delivered

Join us at the Hotel Zoso on February 16 - 18 for the annual Intelligent Content Conference.

Now in its third year, the conference is an annual meeting of thought leaders and practitioners dedicated to improving the findability, usability, adaptability and delivery of content to a wide variety of users, when, where and how they need it.

A Forum for Thought Leaders and Practicing Professionals

What’s Intelligent Content?

Intelligent content is content which is not limited to one purpose, technology or output. It's content that is structurally rich and semantically aware, and is therefore discoverable, reusable, reconfigurable and adaptable. It's content that helps you and your customers get the job done. It's content that is limited only by our imaginations.

X-Fest

The X-Fest Technology Showcase features four dynamic sessions that will introduce and demonstrate some of the latest tools and techniques for making content, and content processes, intelligent.

Sessions will highlight recent technology developments and customer solutions that illustrate what is becoming possible. The presenters will be ambitious – they will demonstrate capabilities that are in development and to discuss ideas about where they see the market, and their focus, going.

Between them, the four sessions will touch upon a broad range of lifecycle events, from creation and evolution of intelligent content through its management and globalization and onto delivery in an array of engaging forms.

The rapid fire demonstration format will be moderated by Joe Gollner and each session will incorporate an opportunity for the audience to offer commentary and raise questions. The conversations that are sparked will then spill over into the reception that starts immediately after X-Fest.

Intelligent Content Creation and Review

Intelligent content, as structured content that is genuinely open, informative and reusable, can deliver remarkable benefits. The challenge is to engage a broad community of subject matter experts and technical communicators in an efficient dialogue so that the content we produce is truly intelligent. The questions that arise include: How do we minimize the work associated with planning, authoring, editing, reviewing and finalizing carefully-constructed XML content? How do we prevent authors from becoming lost in complex selections of mark-up and reuse options? How do we ensure that our content can support exacting downstream processing demands?

For more than a decade XMetaL has been one of the world’s leading technologies for tackling these challenges. The latest version of XMetaL Author (6.0) represents a culmination of years of experience and customer input on the combination of tools and techniques that will help knowledge workers and technical communicators succeed at producing high quality, intelligent content. XMetaL combines a user-friendly and extensible structured authoring interface with integrated reviewing so that a diverse community of users, including full-time content producers and subject matter experts, can work together seamlessly no matter where these people are located.

In this session we’ll look at a number of content creation and review scenarios, drawn from the domain of technical documentation, and show how XMetaL can be used to optimize how organizations create, review, finalize and deploy intelligent content.

Speaker

Tom Magliery, XML Technology Specialist
Tom is an enthusiastic advocate of structured content with experience dating back to the origins of XML and the WWW. He has been with the XMetaL team since 2002 acting in diverse roles and all with a common thread: evangelizing the use of structured content to improve universal access to all kinds of information.

SDL

Next Generation Customer Experience with DITA and Intelligent Content

There is a massive move afoot in the industry to focus on improving customer experience by leveraging DITA, the XML standard for technical documentation. Analyst studies suggest that personalized interactive technical documentation can significantly drive down calls to call centers and increase repeat buying and hence revenues. Key to these business benefits is the ability to dynamically deliver content tailored to the personas of customers and the products they have bought.

This presentation demonstrates SDL LiveContent, an intelligent, dynamic delivery engine for technical documentation. The presentation demonstrates how technical content that is written in DITA can be delivered in an interactive application that personalizes customer experience, provides a foundation for the creation of community and feedback mechanisms, and sets the stage for the next generation customer experience.

Speaker

Chip Gettinger, VP XML Solutions
Chip is a veteran in the XML market space with more than 18 years experience. Chip leads solutions architecture for SDL’s Structured Content Technologies Division and has been involved in assisting large enterprise customers plan for and deploy DITA-based solutions.

Quark

One Source to Print and Digital: Web, iPad, Tablets, Smartphones, RSS…

Every day over a hundred million readers use their iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android and other digital devices to receive content. Although companies understand the value of publishing content quickly and accurately across media-including digital devices-many are burdened with outdated business and publishing processes that keep them from reaching their target audience effectively.

Cross-media publishing doesn’t have to be complicated and out-of-reach. In fact, Quark’s dynamic publishing solution with Microsoft SharePoint makes it automated and accessible.

In this session, learn how Quark breaks down barriers to help enterprise publishers:

  • Deliver the functionality of a dynamic publishing system across your organization
  • Reduce publishing costs and manage all content and assets in a single enterprise repository
  • Enable knowledge workers to publish directly across media with minimal burden on the creative services department
  • Publish information the way your customers want it: print, the Web, and digital devices

Speaker

PG Bartlett, Senior Vice President of Product Management
Bartlett leads all of Quark’s product management and product marketing functions. He has an extensive history of high-tech marketing and product management, having spent the last 15 years focused on publishing automation. Bartlett will share how Quark’s dynamic publishing solution works with Microsoft SharePoint to provide organizations the opportunity to reduce publishing costs, increase accuracy and timeliness, eliminate redundancy, and publish across print, Web, and digital media seamlessly.

Akshay Mahajan, Quark Product Manager
On a daily basis, Akshay works with companies from around the world to help them create content that can be automatically published to different types of media using Quark Publishing System. Akshay will demonstrate how you can author structured content in Microsoft Word, manage that content in Microsoft SharePoint, and publish to multiple media types including print, Web, iPhone and iPad.

Aptara

From Intelligent Content to Enhanced eBooks & Apps

Once you have your intelligent content created and safely tucked into a content management system, the journey does not end. It must be disseminated to your audience in forms that are useful and interesting. Traditionally this has meant the creation of print, and later online based delivery. More and more publishers are targeting electronic reading devices, smart phones and tablet PCs as new platforms to disseminate information to their customers, employees and shareholders.

This session will take the created content discussed in the previous presentations and examine ways in which the intelligence built into the content can be used to develop enhanced eBooks and mobile platform apps. Discussions of strategy and demonstrations of final outputs are planned.
